Best time to arrive

At 10:00 on a weekday, the rooms are at their quietest.

Late afternoon, from about 15:30, is also calm, though leave yourself enough time for the garden.

Spring and summer show the garden at its best; in winter the house itself, with its lamps lit, is the star.

Common Questions

Visitor Guide FAQ

How long do I need at Museum Van Loon?
About an hour for the house, garden and coach house. Allow longer if there is a temporary exhibition or if you stop at the museum café.
Is there an audio guide?
No. Visitors receive an information booklet, and texts in the rooms explain what you are seeing.
Is the museum suitable for wheelchair users?
Only partly. The house has steep stairs between floors. The ground floor and garden are easier; call +31 (0)20 624 5255 before you visit to discuss access.
Can I take photos?
Personal photography is generally allowed. Follow any signs in temporary exhibitions, and avoid flash near the paintings.
Is it good for children?
Children under 6 enter free and ages 6 to 17 pay €9.75. The kitchen, the garden and the stories of the family who lived here tend to work well for older children.
